Little Burgundy, Montréal – November 8th, 2021
Taking Action
The Woven Housing Organization is conducting a month of awareness initiative. Rick McKeen, the founder, and director of the organization will be speaking at events hosted around Montréal. The team will be standing up for better housing rights in support of those struggling to find clean, affordable housing with lower incomes. We advocate for better accessibility and affordability since the housing laws are not available to everyone. A main concern is the lack of equality because the policy differs depending on your income, race, and age group. These are issues we will not stand for. If you participate in the upcoming events, it demonstrates to the city council that something is wrong with the housing policies and change’s need to be made.
How to Join
We encourage everyone to come, show support and give back to communities around Montréal like Little Burgundy. It’s more than an event or protest; it’s a place for everyone to come together to make a change. It is time to stand up for what is right and assist those who are struggling. If you wish to take part in these events you can leave your email or number in the contact box below to be notified the day before with a location and time. Also Included is a calendar that has all the events throughout the month of November as we want everyone to be aware of when they will take place.
How We Can Support You
We believe that everyone should have access to essential services, a safe place to live and resources to fight against eviction. No individual or family should feel at risk for home destruction by the city. We make you our number one priority when trying to assist in the housing process. Our employees are all reliable, knowledgeable experts that will make you feel comfortable and confident in your choices. We also have connections to other important resources such as therapists, financial advisors, community service officers and more. Never hesitate to reach out, our team is honoured to help and provide services to Montréal.
Who Are We?
The organization began in the 1950’s when three social workers came together to help those in need during the housing crisis. The founders are Rick McKeen, Steven Smith and Tara Larson who are passionate about contributing to society. They took all previous knowledge, work experience and effort into starting this new chapter together. There was a spark in all of them to make changes, to help and support those who feel alone. Now ten years later, there are twenty employees that work endlessly to provide resources and advocate for communities around Montréal.
Our Services
The Woven Housing Organization provides many services. Paralegal services are one of our main duties; this includes giving support to lawyers and clients and providing them with advice to properly represent their clients, as well as manage certain cases and documents. Our team also assists in the housing application process, whether that is for a transition home, a shelter, or a rental. Our team also provides resources for counselling, answering questions about the housing system and its social policies, and working alongside city council.
